She has a B.S. in Information Systems from Strayer University and is an advocate for life-long learning. In 2013 Darlene received a Leadership Certificate from the Leadership Institute at Prince George’s Community College. She holds a coaching certificate from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC); and designed a personal development curriculum providing successful methodologies on harnessing and implementing your personal power thru journaling as a tool for emotional and mental wellness for life transformation. She has a certificate from Yale University on the curriculum - ‘Coping with Work and Family Stress: A Workplace Preventive Intervention and is certified in Stephen Covey’s - ‘Seven Habits of Highly Effective People;’ as well as the ‘Tracom Social Styles’, an ‘Emotional Intelligence and Behavioral Leadership’ training module.
Darlene is a former advisory Board Member for the ‘Diverse Male Student Institute’ (DMSI), and a founding board member for ‘Women of Wisdom’ both programs are in operation at Prince George’s Community College. She is passionate about helping others through sharing her knowledge and leadership expertise. She has served as a committee member for the Women’s Legislative Council for Prince George’s County, and an advisory board member for Women of Prince George's, the Global Women Peace Foundation and for the Family Justice Center Foundation in Prince George’s County.
An eloquent speaker, her words are known to heal, enlighten, empower, inform, and inspire. Her charismatic personality and relatable storytelling have captivated audiences and engages all age groups. The ‘Life-Skills’ curriculum on healing, transformation and resilience has resulted in improvement in the lives of people for many years at “Adam’s House” in Prince George’s County Maryland – a successful community-based program designed to assist families in distress.
She has had several articles published on health, business and leadership in Today’s Black Woman, Prince George’s Suite Magazine, and The Evolution online publication. Darlene shares her story of trials and triumphs in her chapter “Leading by Example.” in the co-authored “HLIC - Head Ladies in Charge” book released in 2014. The “HLIC - Head Ladies in Charge” film provides a deeper look into the pivotal moments of her life that served to strengthen her faith, increase her self-esteem, and foster a disciplined thought life with improved self- talk that led to improved decision making.
Ms. Brown’s extensive list of professional endeavors includes the launch of BrownIzes Productions in 2001. In 2003 her debut poetry CD, “Lovesick Lessons”; produced by international jazz pianist Bob Baldwin was released to rave reviews. The poetry CD shares inspirational poems delivered against a backdrop of classic and soulful jazz music with the lyrical expression of lessons learned through the journey of learning how to love herself. Her debut riveting live stage performance with Bob Baldwin and his band at the famous “Blues Alley” in Washington, DC was seen later that same year. Darlene is the executive producer of the “Kings and Queens of Poetry” in 2003 at the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, DC.
In 2004, Darlene produced a weekly open-mic poetry show, “What’s the Word” featuring poets from across the world at the Sugar Shack Café in Harlem, New York. She went on to be the executive producer and host for “The Next Level” TV-show, airing weekly to an audience of 1.5 million New York City views in 2003 through 2005. Her on-camera roster of interviews with such notable artists as Carl Thomas, Queen Latifah, Erykah Badu, Common, Deborah Cox, Jaheim, Bob Baldwin, Marcus Johnson, Percy Miller aka Master P, Heather Headley, and the late Chuck Brown to name a few. Darlene, then co-executive produced the “Mic-Check” artist showcase where notable artists such as John Legend performed.
Darlene is a proven business success and speaker.
